Function is looking for a 3rd Year Photography Intern
student to become the Function vol. 12 intern.
The duration of the internship will be November 2010 to May 2011.
Candidates who possess an enthusiasm to learn the process of publishing a fine arts magazine and who wish to work within a creative and challenging environment are encouraged to apply. The intern will work closely with the editorial team to provide support with, but not restricted to, fundraising, outreach initiatives, liaising with professionals and the public, coordinating special events and office administration. Some physical work may also be required.
Requirements:
- A strong knowledge of contemporary art
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Basic accounting skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with Apple computer systems and basic office programs including database software, spreadsheets and word processing programs
- Experience painting, handling artwork, installing artwork
Hours will be typically 5 hours a week in the fall semester and increased hours in the winter semester.
The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

October Zine Submissions
We are accepting photography, film, and new media works.
Deadline is October 22th (not the 25th)
Maximum of 5 submissions per person.
In your email please include: name, title of piece(s), program, and a link to your work (if available).

Photography Requirements:
maximum height: 8.5 inches
maximum width: 5 inches
minimum DPI: 200
Film Requirements:
Films will be showcased on the upcoming FUNCTION website.
May be hosted on Youtube, Vimeo, or other such sites. Provide a link in your email.
There are no time restrictions on length, but please be reasonable.
FUNCTION is able to provide hosting, but it is up to you to present your work to the FUNCTION team in a format that can be easily streamed.
New Media Requirements:
New Media works will be showcased on the upcoming FUNCTION website.
Java(Processing) files, Flash files, and other commonly used formats are accepted.
If your piece is already hosted on a server, provide said link in your email.
FUNCTION is able to provide hosting, but it is up to you to present your work to the FUNCTION team.

In cooperation with Red Bull 381 Projects and curator Nicholas Brown, Function Magazine is bringing you yet another great opportunity to get your work out there as well as enjoy a splendid evening of fancy fun.
Here is what you have to do to be a part of it:
-EMAIL your submissions to functionmag@gmail.com
-subject the email "Red Bull Exhibition"
-Submit up to 4 images you would like to be seen together at 72 dpi.
-Title the images firstname_lastname_01 and so on.
-Installation and video work may also be submitted (please email us installation shots, images of 3d works and plot summaries or links to clips for films). The gallery is equipped with a projector and viewing area.
-Please include in the body of the email your full name and contact information (cell phone and website), title of the work, year, size of print, size framed, how you will be framing or matting your work, the cost and the medium.
The submission deadline is Friday, March 19, 2010 at midnight.
Selected images will be chosen by the function team, Tara Fillion, Amanda MacNaughton and Mickey Nielsen as well as 381 Projects curator Nicholas Brown on Monday, March 22, 2010.
Please note that there will be a $20 exhibition fee for all selected participants and 20% commission taken from any works sold the evening of the event.
Selected participants will be listed with the images that were chosen on the function blog on Tuesday March 23, 2010 by noon. It is up to each participant to drop the framed work and submission fee to the Red Bull Gallery at 381 Queen Street West. More instruction will be posted on the blog. If your work is not framed or matted in a professional manner it will not be hung.

ALL work for PRINT must be submitted on a CD or DVD with your full name, program and year on it . To be considered for publication in the magazine submit your work on or before February 12th 2010 with your $5 cash submission fee (goes towards distribution to editors, curators and other relevant professionals in the industry). Submissions must be handed directly to a function editor or volunteer and you must sign our submission form (to avoid lost submissions). Dates and times will be set up and announced soon. For now, early submissions can be arranged via functionmag@gmail.com.
Film and New Media students*
Please consider submitting film stills, story boards or installation shots of your work as well. We value your contribution because it helps enrich and diversify the content printed within Function.
Images
1. All images must be CMYK
2. Include BOTH hi-resolution and low-resolution versions of ALL your images.
3. Hi resolution images must be in TIFF format, 300dpi. The magazine size is 8x10 so please consider this when sizing your images for print.
